IMP System Change Notification
------------------------------
During the week of 16 August, we installed a new version of
the IMP system, version 2505. The new version incorporated three
principal changes:
1) The number of hosts the system can handle was increased
from three to four. Although this caused a rather large
internal change to the IMP, the only external effects of
the change are the presence of a new status light [light
8 monitors Host 4], and the lengthening of the 10-second
and snapshot statistics.
2) The host handling routines were modified to gather more
accurate and voluminous statistics on host usage of the
network, and report them to NCC.
3) The 10-sec. statistics were changed to measure time for
the host "round trip" statistic in units of 800 rather
than 100 microseconds.
It is not anticipated that the new system should have any
direct effect on the hosts.

§1More Host Capacity
BBN installed IMP system version 2505 during the week of August 16. The system's host-handling capacity increased from three hosts to four.
The visible effects were a new status light, light 8, for Host 4, and longer 10-second and snapshot statistics.
The IMP can now handle four hosts instead of three. A new light shows Host 4, and some reports became longer.
§2Host Usage Statistics
The host-handling routines were changed to collect more accurate and more extensive statistics about host use of the network and report them to the Network Control Center.
The host round-trip measurement in the 10-second statistics changed from units of 100 microseconds to units of 800 microseconds.
The IMP reports more information about host use to the Network Control Center. The round-trip statistic is now measured in units of 800 microseconds.
§3Expected Host Impact
The notice says BBN did not anticipate any direct effect on hosts from the new system version.
BBN expected host systems to continue working without a direct change.
