CORRECTION TO BBN REPORT NO. 1822
In the process of generating RFC #271 we have discovered a set of
errors in BBN Report No. 1822 (NIC 7958). The attached page is a
corrected version of page 25; in addition the first two lines should
be deleted from page 26. The paragraph at the top of page 25 is
changed to show that the Host is NOT marked dead under the stated
conditions, and to show that the timeout period is 30 (rather than
40) seconds. In the footnote, the two changes are underlined; these
changes also show the timeout period as 30 seconds. A more formal
update to Report 1822 will be distributed eventually.
Please note that these changes reflect errors in previous versions of
Report 1822, _not_ changes to the IMP system. The timeout period has
ALWAYS been 30 seconds and the Host was NEVER marked dead under these
conditions.

§1The Report Error
While preparing RFC 271, Alex McKenzie found errors in BBN Report 1822. RFC 270 supplies a corrected version of page 25 and says to remove the first two lines of page 26.
The correction changes the account of the host's status and the length of the timeout described in the report.
A review of another report found that its description did not match the IMP system. This RFC identifies the page that needs correction.
§2The Corrected Timeout
The corrected text says the host is not marked dead under the stated conditions. It also gives the timeout period as 30 seconds rather than 40 seconds.
RFC 270 notes that the timeout was always 30 seconds and that the host was never marked dead in this case.
The report had the wrong timeout and host-status description. The actual behavior was already the corrected version.
§3A Documentation Correction
McKenzie emphasizes that the changes correct earlier versions of Report 1822 and do not change the IMP system. The RFC says a more formal update to the report would be distributed later.
No system change is proposed here. The note fixes the written explanation and says a fuller report revision was planned.
