                      ARPA NETWORK CONTROL CENTER

1. Schedule
    --------
The NCC operations staff has recently been augmented so that the NCC
is now manned 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Please be sure to
contact the NCC in case of any IMP/TIP or Network problems, at any
time of the day or night.

2. NCC Phone Number
    ----------------
In the past we have been informed that persons trying to reach the NCC
have occasionally received busy signals. In an effort to change that,
we have installed a new set of phone numbers for the NCC. The new
phone number for the Network Control Center is (617) 661-0100. Please
post this new phone number prominently near IMPs and inform all
concerned parties of this new phone number. (The old phone number
will also continue to operate, for a while.)

Hereafter, if you receive a busy signal (please distinguish from the
"fast busy signal", meaning "busy circuits"), then please persist, but
also please be sure to inform the operator when you do reach him of
the the fact that you received a busy signal.

3. Mail to the NCC should be addressed to:

PROBLEMPeople reporting network problems had sometimes encountered busy signals when calling the Network Control Center.
MECHANISMThe notice says the NCC was now staffed at all times and gives a new phone number for contacting it.
CONTACTING THE NCCSites were asked to post the new number near their IMPs and report busy signals when they reached an operator.

§1NCC Coverage

The Network Control Center operations staff had been expanded so that the NCC was staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sites were asked to contact it at any time about IMP, TIP or network problems.

Sites could call the Network Control Center at any time to report problems with an IMP, TIP or the network.

§2New Telephone Number

The new NCC number was (617) 661-0100. The notice asks sites to post it near their IMPs and tell people who may need to call. The old number would continue to operate for a while.

If a caller received a busy signal, the notice says to keep trying and tell the operator about the busy signal after reaching them.

Post the new NCC number near the equipment. If the line is busy, keep trying and tell the operator when you get through.

§3Written Contact

The RFC provides a mailing address for written messages to the ARPA Network Control Center at Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It also lists field service managers and site contacts for information purposes.

The notice also gives a mailing address for the Network Control Center. It lists people who were copied on the announcement.
