§1September Traffic Tables
Alex McKenzie attaches network traffic statistics for September 1972. The main table is headed Host Throughput Summary (Packet Output) and lists host throughput by site and host number.
The table includes inter-node, intra-node and total packet counts, along with average daily internode traffic and the number of days counted.
The attached report counts packets sent by hosts during September. It shows traffic to other nodes separately from traffic within a node.
§2Host and Site Entries
The summary includes entries for sites such as UCLA, SRI, UCSB, BBN, MIT, RAND, Harvard, Lincoln, Stanford and others. Some sites have several host rows followed by a subtotal. TINK, MC CL and BELV are marked as having no traffic.
The report includes a total of 24,867,510 inter-node packets and 7,589,632 intra-node packets, and gives daily averages and an average per node-day.
Each site is listed with one or more host entries, and some sites have subtotals. The report also gives totals across the listed traffic.
§3Scope of the Note
The RFC's accompanying text only says that September statistics are attached. It updates RFC 391 according to the unit metadata and does not explain the table's detailed collection process.
This RFC is mainly a statistical table, not a protocol description. Its metadata says it updates RFC 391.
