§1Monthly Host Traffic
RFC 443 attaches host traffic statistics for December 1972 and updates RFC 422. Its table counts packets output by hosts and groups them by network site.
The report marks data as missing for the second, third, fourth, eighth, fifteenth, and twentieth days. The table's averages therefore need to be read with that note in mind.
The table counts packets that hosts sent during December 1972. Some days have no recorded data.
§2What the Table Counts
The table separates inter-node packets from intra-node packets, then gives a total, an average daily inter-node count, and the number of days used for the average. It lists individual hosts and totals for sites with more than one host.
The report also gives overall totals and averages at the end. It does not explain the collection method or identify applications behind the traffic.
Inter-node counts cover packets between nodes; intra-node counts cover packets within one node. The table adds host and site totals.
§3Limits of This Record
The final lines report totals for inter-node and intra-node packets, daily averages, an average per node-day, and a packets-to-messages figure. The RFC presents these numbers as a snapshot of December traffic.
Because several days are missing and the document gives no further method details, it should be read as the attached statistics, not as a complete account of every network event.
This RFC is a monthly traffic record, not a protocol specification. Its missing-day note is important when reading the reported totals.
