§1The January Report
A. McKenzie of BBN attaches the Host traffic statistics for January 1973. The attachment is titled Host Throughput Summary and reports packets output.
Hosts are grouped by site, with separate entries where a site has more than one host.
The RFC presents a monthly packet-count report. Each row identifies a host whose traffic was counted.
§2How to Read the Table
The table separates packets sent between nodes from packets sent within a node. It also gives a total for hosts and sites, an average daily internode count, and the number of days represented.
Most rows cover the full month, while some sites have fewer reported days; the report also marks hosts with no traffic.
The two traffic columns show whether packets crossed to another node or stayed within one. The days column shows how much data was available for a row.
§3Totals and Averages
The table ends with totals for internode and intranode packets, daily averages, and averages per node-day. It also reports a packets-to-messages ratio for internode traffic.
The figures describe observed output during the reporting period and do not specify how hosts should communicate.
The report adds up the host figures and gives averages. These numbers are a snapshot of network traffic, not protocol rules.
