Status of the Illinois Site (Response to RFC 0116)

As of the date of the report, 26 April, the Illinois Site has complete
operational hardware connecting the PDP-11 system with the IMP.

Due to much trouble with the Burroughs B6500 computer, final checkout
of the operating system plus the network control program for the
PDP-11 has been seriously curtailed. Current expectations are:

--checkout of the NCP by the latter part of May

--installation of the PDP-11 system in Paoli, PA (the operating
link between Illinois and Burroughs in Paoli) so that the system
       will be operational during June

On this page
PROBLEMIllinois reported progress on connecting its PDP-11 system to the network, as requested by RFC 116.
MECHANISMThe site had operational hardware between the PDP-11 and the IMP, while B6500 problems slowed software checkout.
PLANNED NEXT STEPSThe report expected NCP checkout in late May and operation during June after installation in Paoli.

§1Hardware and Software Status

As of 26 April, the Illinois site had operational hardware connecting its PDP-11 system with the IMP. This report responds to RFC 116.

Trouble with the Burroughs B6500 had seriously curtailed final checkout of the PDP-11 operating system and network control program (NCP).

The connection hardware was working. The software still needed testing, which had been delayed by trouble with the Burroughs B6500.

§2Expected Schedule

The report expected NCP checkout to finish by the latter part of May. It also expected the PDP-11 to be installed in Paoli, Pennsylvania, where it would provide the operating link between Illinois and the Burroughs system.

The report expected the system to be operational during June. These dates are expectations, not confirmed results.

The team expected to finish NCP testing by late May. It planned to install the PDP-11 in Paoli and have the system operating during June.

§3Scope of the Report

This short RFC records a site's status and expected schedule; it does not specify a protocol. The unit metadata says it updates RFC 116 and lists its status as Unknown.

This document records progress and plans at one site. Its metadata says it updates RFC 116.
